Listen up, Spartans, the official free-to-play multiplayer of the upcoming Halo Infinite has launched early this week, and so far it seems to be pretty popular. So in order to get into tip-top Spartan shape and slay your way across the various arenas, we have a guide for the most demanding graphics options, and which settings can be turned up or down for little to no FPS loss.

In this article we will take a look at which Halo Infinite Multiplayer graphics settings are the best to turn all the way up to Ultra and which ones can get us a little FPS boost for no real visual loss when we turn them off or down. We've compiled a list below of the most demanding graphics options in the game, so you can get a handle on what to expect when you adjust different graphics settings in Halo Infinite Multiplayer to get the perfect balance of visual fidelity and FPS performance in game.

Below you will see every graphics option listed and benchmarked against a minimum graphics setting used as our baseline benchmark for Halo Infinite Multiplayer. From there we see which graphics options have the highest performance impact on our hardware for the least visual improvement, and then we will see which options can be turned up to max and deliver the best visual improvement in Halo Infinite.

For the performance cost result baseline we used the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card - which is close the recommended GPU for Halo Infinite Multiplayer - an Intel Core i7-10700K processor, and 16GB of DDR4 memory.

To standardize the benchmark tests we created a custom game in one of the various maps available, ran around and shot some enemies along the way. In our benchmark tests we found this to be pretty representative of your average multiplayer gameplay and performance when comparing each graphics option relative to each other.

If you see any significant discrepancy/difference between the benchmark tool FPS and actual FPS returned then please do share your findings in the comments below.

There is a lot of graphics settings available in Halo Infinite Multiplayer, so we went through the 26 graphics options listed and tested each one in turn, recording the average frame rates for each and then comparing them to a baseline FPS that was recorded with all the graphics options either turned off or to their lowest settings.

What are the most demanding graphics options in Halo Infinite Multiplayer?

As you can see in the FPS performance graph above, there are a lot of graphics settings available in Halo Infinite Multiplayer, but there's only a few that have a significant impact on frame rates, whilst the rest have low to minimal impact on FPS, with the exception of one option that actually improves frame rate slightly.

Most notably, the most demanding graphics option in Halo Infinite Multiplayer is Shadow Quality at an 11.13% FPS performance cost, followed closely behind by Volumetric Fog Quality at 9.89%. The next most demanding graphics option is Reflections with almost half the FPS cost at 5.72%.

Next up is Texture Quality and Geometry Quality both at an FPS cost of 4.33%, then Effects Quality at 3.09%, Sharpening at 2.78%, Terrain Quality at 2.63%, Texture Filtering at 2.47%, Ambient Occlusion and Speed Lines both at 2.32%, Ground Cover Quality at 2.16%, and Animation Quality and Screen Shake both at 2.01%.

After that is Dynamic Wind, Flocking Quality, and Exposure all at 1.55%, then Cloud Quality at 1.39%, Decal Quality and Simulation Quality both at 1.24%, Blur and Depth of Field at 0.93% each, Full Screen Effects and Anti-Aliasing at 0.77%, Lighting Quality at 0.62%, and finally Async Compute which actually improves performance by 1.39% on hardware that supports the feature.

There are a lot of graphics settings available in Halo Infinite Multiplayer in order for us to customize our FPS and get the right balance of FPS performance and visual quality.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer graphics settings performance results and conclusion - Looking over all the results above we can see that Halo Infinite Multiplayer has a pretty sizeable amount of graphics settings to customize, giving us a lot of options to get the perfect balance of FPS performance and image quality.

However, there are only a few settings which actually affect FPS performance significantly. So, if you want to increase your frame rate in Halo Infinite Multiplayer, the first setting you should turn down is Shadow Quality with an 11.13% FPS cost. Your next port of call should then be Volumetric Fog Quality at 9.89%.

After that, your next option to turn down should be Reflections at 5.72%, followed by both Texture Quality and Geometry Quality at 4.33% FPS cost each, then Effects Quality at 3.09%. Finally, all hardware that supports the feature should enable Async Compute as it actually increases performance by 1.39%.

Finally, some settings like Texture Quality and Effects Quality will need a full game restart in order to take effect. So if you decide to turn up or down either of those graphics options to improve performance then you will need to quit the game and relaunch it to benefit from the effects.

This is very poorly optimized, I tried 1440p ultra and the fps dropped sometimes not too much but noticeably, then I changed to 1080p and high but nothing changed, only got 20-30 fps in menu but in game it was barely 60fps, and this game doesn't look like next gen title. For comparison, BF 2042 has way bigger maps and I can run it at 120-144hz ultra 1080p no problem

I've heard that people have been getting big FPS issues like that with unupdated drivers. Maybe you've already considered that, but if you haven't it might make the game run a little better once you update those.

The multiplayer felt like some 2007 cringe shooter so I've uninstalled it before my first round ended. The physics and gameplay and everything... so primitive.

They took halo and scooped every bit of soul straight out of it.


Then they put some shiny stickers and tassels on the mangled corpse of a once wonderful franchise.

I know the Multiplayer is F2P, but I can't believe they're selling a campaign of this as a AAA full price title, with loads of content missing at launch. The graphics look pretty damn poor for a AAA Flagship title in 2021.
