After nearly 2 years of waiting for exclusivity periods to run out, this week marked the surprise launch for the remake of Final Fantasy 7 on PC. Despite finally launching on PC though, some players may have to wait for another exclusivity period to run out, as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
Nevertheless, it’s a pretty anticipated game for a PC release, and we want to know what are your thoughts on it now that it’s on the platform, how well it performs for you, and whether you’ve already got it anyway or if you’ll be waiting for a Steam release to better gauge what everyone thinks of it so far.
Of course, it does come with a bit of a caveat: as the new FF7 Remake on PC is one of the first games to debut with a pretty high price tag. Whether games will start to move towards this $10 increase in AAA pricing is unclear, and it is technically a ‘complete’ edition with more content. However, it is almost 2 years old at this point, so it’s certainly not a brand new game.
Whatever your thoughts, we want to know, and hopefully can help others who were on the fence before to make a decision. Let’s just hope that when the second part of the game comes around next time, we won’t have to wait so long for a PC release again, but be prepared for the worst just in case.
So what do you think of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PC so far? Is it performing well for you? Or have you not played it yet because you're waiting for a Steam release instead? And do you think it deserves the higher price on PC? Or is it too much for a nearly 2 year old game? Let’s debate!

Got the PS5 version like a month ago when I was able to get the console at retail price. The game cost me 32 quid new so the EGS version is a huge rip off at 80 euros seeing as it's a straight up port of the PS5 version without any upgrades. I have a 28 inch 4k monitor so the game looks sharp even in performance mode and is super fun.
PC Specs
Ive seen it for 80 euros on epic games and thats the base version. I think that says enough.
PC Specs
That is not a PC port. That is a console port being emulated on PC by Square Enix. BTW a mod is already out that lets you add a bunch of effects into the game like AO, GI, SSR ,etc so check that out.
Also this game was cracked in less than an hour after launch so people who paid for it got screwed over double-time by not having any graphics options and also having to put up with Denuvo. And Square Enix had the guts to charge $70 for a two year old game! and that too on PC where its a buyer's market. I sure wopuld like to have some of what they were smoking when they took this decision.
PC Specs
Game doesn't have Denuvo
PC Specs
You're right it doesn't have Denuvo. That's my bad as my info was based on some third-party sources.
However my statement still stand that people got screwed over double time, one for a game without graphics options, menu mouse support, memory leak, stuttering on a 3090 or any actual effort put into it and secondly for hav9ing to pay $70 for a 2 year old game.
PC Specs
You have explained it perfectly.
PC Specs
Reminds me of Crisis Core a little. I'll get it. But not from that EGS piece of ... of course.
PC Specs
Just checked the price and it's $90 in my region too. Pretty broken considering the recommended price for new $60 games in my region are around ~$20 on Steam.
PC Specs
They should've kept the game as it is, only improving the visualt.
Turn based rpg's still work well, and that's how the game was. If you don't like it, it's not f or you.
PC Specs
But they didn't. You know why? Because unlike you a good majority are put off by the boring turn based combat. But still they kept it as an optional combat alternative.
Maybe the game is not for you and not the others.
PC Specs
Yeah if a remake of an old title is not for those who initially played it, and loved it for what it is, it truly is a horrible remake.
PC Specs
What are you saying? There are 2 combat options..it is made for the people that enjoyed it back then but also just as much for new players, hence the new combat style. I don't understand what your problem is in regard to that.
PC Specs
Truly, the real successor to Final Fantasy is Epic Battle Fantasy. I was also interested in this remake, but I didn't know about how modern Final Fantasy worked
PC Specs
I agree man.
At least the turn based style let the player control the pace. It's a JRPG staple at this point and a very nice system when the game gives the player like 50 available moves in combat.
Trying to cycle through to find the right move while also trying not to get stunlocked in a corner by the hyper-aggressive AI is just too much.
The dynamic and action based system they have going right now can make things seem a bit more eventful, sure, but the enemies simply have too much health to make that system feel "satisfying". Cloud can do his extreme limit break EX mega buster blast or whatever and only take out like 5%-10% of the enemy health bar while knocking the enemy back a bit.
For action style gameplay like this where dodge and attack spamming are a MUST, the encounters have to be a lot shorter to keep the player (or at least me) invested.
If it was still turn-based then i could take my time to enjoy the cool designs, soundtrack and animations more while also leaving it on my own turn for like 15 minutes to go make some coffee or something without worrying about "falling out of the rythm" when i get back.
I sincerely love the turn-based JRPG system and I hope that the next Persona or Dragon Quest games don't decide to try and also opt for this weird new style.

FF7R is my most wanted game since it was released on PS4. Why I didn't buy it yet?
So... I really, really WANT to play this game now, but not in this state. We are PC MASTER RACE, not f/*0% consolists.
WAITING FOR STEAM OR BETTER RELEASE/HUGE PATCH! (one year, two years, I don't care)
This is failure of the year. Started to play modded FF7 instead - never played before. (Satsuki Yatoshi Mod)
PC Specs
game is very good optimized, I tested it on Vega 8 I got 43fps on high settings 720p even on GT 710 is playable
PC Specs
no way that gt710 can run this game till now Days Gone was the no.1 most optimised game out there and gt710 can barelly run with decresed resolution scaling, yet here i heard that FF7 remake is very poorly optimised
PC Specs
I tested it on both Vega 8 and GT 710 and it's playable
PC Specs
worst thing about this game is the high price
PC Specs
Currently it looks like terrible deal considering the issues it has. Which was pretty shocking considering that it came after few really good ports to PC by Square Enix. Especially with super premium price tag, one should only expect the best, not get cheap lazy port.
PC Specs
Played this game perfectly on a old ps4 when it released , after i tried this on pc i just wanna say that u should wait until u buy this because the game doesnt run well. Its a straight port from ps5 with no updated settings for pc and also forced to run on directX 12 which cause a lot of issues , such as stuttering.
PC Specs
From what I hear, stuttering issues more or less come from forced dynamic resolution scaling. Since there is already mod to disable that and some people are reporting it helped with stuttering a lot. Didn't try it myself, because I didn't buy the game yet and by the looks of it, I guess I will wait.
PC Specs
Yeah I tried that mod and it only help me to get a better image quality but the stuttering is still there , im going to wait too
PC Specs
Sad to hear that it dont runs well. I had hopes atleast it will be optimized, but seems i was too naive. Oh well i keep my money then and wait for now. Maybe they fix it.
PC Specs
In Europe it's actually $90 (80 Euros) so there's no way I buy this 2 year old game at this ridiculous price..
The same goes for Forspoken when it releases (same price).
I hope they won't sell well at all...maybe they'll come back to reality.
